Recovery from intense physical activity is a real thing
April 13, 2019
While I do concede that recovery days do rob me of valuable caloric expenditure, fitness is a series of ascending plateaus. When I attend two or three weeks of 45-minute to 60-minute classes in a row, I always start seeing diminishing returns on my work. I haven’t been to a spin class in a full […]
Spin Instructors are Cycling Coxswains
February 19, 2019
I know we call them spin instructors, indoor cycling instructors, or even CYCLESTARS, like we do at CYCLEBAR, to me, they’ll be forever known as my Cycling Coxswains.
The results of three days of inactive recovery and some motivational words from my best friend
February 12, 2019
I canceled my Friday ride last week and took the weekend off. No spinning or CYCLEBAR for me until last night. And, despite what everyone said, I didn’t do any amount of active recovery (though I do consider that to be a mistake I don’t regret but will try to learn from). I could tell […]
Overtraining is real and requires sufficient recovery
February 8, 2019
I rode every weekday last week and through Thursday of this week. My friends have been so motivational that I almost kept my 6:30 pm ride this evening—but I just can’t!
Spin is a spoon full of sugar to help the high intensity workout go down
February 6, 2019
Most indoor cycling spin classes like my home studio CYCLEBAR on Columbia Pike are a spoon full of sugar. They help the medicine go down. If you don’t get the workout you need, you aren’t pushing herself hard enough. Most athletic mortals don’t respond well to dry, scientific, workouts where they treat the bike like an […]
Spinning every weekday
February 3, 2019
I think I’ll ride every weekday at my local CYCLEBAR on Columbia Pike in South Arlington, Virginia.
Trying Riding Everyday at CYCLEBAR
January 29, 2019
After an awesome ride at CYCLEBAR Columbia Pike over the weekend, the co-owner, John Ryan, mentioned that some riders at the studio ride three sequential rides—three rides in a row—and I thought, “maybe I can ride every day.”
My Week at Cyclebar Columbia Pike
January 24, 2019
Today’s my spin day. Tonight at 7:15–15-minutes early, as I always try to be–I’ll be joining a new instructor, Sam, for a 7:30 ride called The After Party. My last ride was with Damion, also a new instructor to me. Damion is an edgy, fun, fulfilling instructor who is always open-minded to trying new things—especially […]
CYCLEBAR Columbia Pike Review
January 17, 2019
This CYCLEBAR Columbia Pike studio looks all slick but also has a lot of heart. A lot of kindness. So much generosity. And great instructors and classes. I launched and grew a new online publication while trying to kill a cold that I couldn’t shake and gained 50 pounds from it. Even though I bought an unlimited package before all of this illness and business started, the owner Marina worked with me to allow me to move my package to when I could use it with good intent. Ever since I’ve been attending, even though I am weaker and less fit and much bigger than I’ve ever been, everyone at the studio has been actually loving and supportive. There’s also a lot of guys there working out so it’s not all women. And all shapes and sizes. It’s a very supportive environment. I love it there.
Cycling with Shane at CYCLEBAR Columbia Pike
January 17, 2019
Riding with Shane during Wednesday night Wine Down Wednesday was a thrill. He’s got excellent pacing and I performed well. CYCLEBAR Columbia Pike is good like that.
