Fifteen-thousand meters in a go
December 13, 2015
Happy to say that I was able to knock out 15,000 meters today.
One 10,000 meter set and then a 5,000 meter set.
And since Divergent and The Divergent Series: Insurgent were both “free” on HBO GO, I rowed through one and a quarter of these movies — which means I started the movie before I started and between sets because each movie is over two hours: 2h 19m and 1h 59m respectively.
So: I’m 106,643 meters in, I have a goal of 200,000 meters before midnight Christmas Eve.
So, I have “only” 93,357 meters to go which means as long as I can fit in a minimum of 9,695 meters every day between tomorrow and the end of Concept2’s Holiday Challenge!
Wish me luck!
Getting my Concept2 groove on towards 200km
December 13, 2015
I’m just procrastinating until I have to jump back on the erg to cover another stationary 10km on my Model C Concept2 Indoor Rower en route to making it to 200km by midnight Christmas Eve.
Last night I covered 10km so I am up to 91,643 meters so far.
What this means to me is that I need to make an average of 9,029.75 meters every day between now and Christmas.
I feel like it’s doable. Off to knock off at least a 10k right now — wish me luck!
Starting the day with a spirited walk
December 12, 2015
I would love to suggest that this morning’s walk was mine but it wasn’t — though I benefited.
It was warm enough to wear shorts and a zippered hoodie, and I could have gone with just a t-shirt, too, but I wanted to carry my wallet, keys, and phone.

Catching up with the Concept2 Holiday Challenge
December 11, 2015
Today was a good day because I pulled harder than I usually do. Because I am getting stronger.
10,660 total meters over two workouts, one after the other, actually. So, I am up to 81,643 meters of the 200,000 meters I aspire to hit by midnight, the night of Christmas Eve. I have 13 more days to go.
As of today, I am 40.82% through the contest, which means I am almost half way through a little more than halfway through — I am really catching up!
And, with 118,357 meters to go, I just have to average 9,104.38 meters a day for the rest of the challenge.
Which is why I am trying to row at least 11k meters every day — to account for the days that are bound to happen when I just can’t get to the erg or just can’t find the time.
The one thing that I keep on forgetting when it comes to challenges like this is that they’re not just days and weeks that feel like it did on day one.
Honestly, very quickly, I adapt and you will do.
Don’t worry: if you feel like you want to vom or you’re bored or you feel like indoor rowing is super-lame, everything will be so different next week.
I have only been rowing this 2015 Concept2 Holiday Challenge for a little over two weeks and I already feel like I am not simply counting the minutes until my 10km or 11km row is in and over.
Today, I kept myself amused by watching the CBS show Supergirl, which is a very moral tale, believe it not.
And you know who is as hot as she ever was? Calista Flockhart! So hot! So moral, too. But also so amusing — and everyone is so much fun to look at. And, generally speaking, I hate CBS.
Come hell or high water
December 11, 2015
This is where I should be feeling frustrated about the fact that we’re half through with the 2015 Concept2 Holiday Challenge and I am only 70,983 meters in out of my goal of 200,000 meters by midnight, the end of Christmas Eve.
I’m 35.5% through. But I am also getting stronger as well. And more used to spending time on the seat and I have my 90-minutes of entertainment sorted.
Tonight it was Self/less with Ryan Reynolds and Sir Ben Kingsley.
I was most entertained because the moment I decided to take a rowing selfie to illustrate this post is the same moment cheesecake heartthrob beauhunk Ryan Reynolds is recovering from being shedded — on a very Model D.
You need to see it to believe it and I have proof.
Anyway, I have become nocturnal so it’s actually 1:14 AM as I write this while cooling off before heading home and catching some sleep.
Wish me luck.
While I’ll be satisfied with anything over 100km, I’ll be completely stoked if I can meet or better 200km by the last moments of 24 December.
